  3. This section will cover the common abbreviations and terms
  4. used by the US Army. This will also cover abbreviations 
  5. and terms commonly used in the game forums, in-game chat,
  6. and in the IRC chat rooms.

  9. AA:O - AmericaÆs Army: Operations
  10.  
  11. AFK - Away From Keyboard
  12.  
  13. AK - ôAvtomat Kalashnikovaö, a Soviet-designed
  14.         assault rifle. (AK47, AKS74U)
  15.  
  16. AK47 - The original "AK" or "Kalashnikov" has been the 
  17.             OPFOR's weapon of choice dating back to 1947. 
  18.             What it lacks in muzzle velocity and accuracy, 
  19.             it gains in high volumes of fire
  20.  
  21. AKSU74 - The AKS-74U is similar to the Ak-74, but with
  22.                 a shorter barrel and folding stock
  23.  
  24. AR - Automatic Rifleman or Rifle (M249)
  25.  
  26. ASE - All-Seeing Eye (server browser)
  27.  
  28. Bandwith - The maximum amount of electronic throughput
  29.                    on a connect at the slowest point (usually 
  30.                    expressed in Kbps or Mbps - higher is better
  31.                    and 1 Mbps = 1000Kbps

  33. bbl - Be back later

  35. bpc - Bottom PC on Insurgent Camp

  37. brb - Be right back

  39. Bunny Hopping - Tactic of jumping while moving to avoid 
  40.                             getting hit

  42. Camper - A player who sits in one location for a period of
  43.                 time. Generally, defensive camping is considered 
  44.                 good form, while camping while on assault is 
  45.                 considered bad form.

  47. CO - Commander
  48.  
  49. Cook - The burn time from a grenade fuse before throwing.
  50.  
  51. cp - Central Peak on Mountain Pass, and Radio Tower
  52.         Also the Main Control Panel on Pipeline.

  54. cqc or cqb -  Close Quarters Combat or Close Quarters

  59. Dragunov SVD - The OPFOR counterpart to the M82A1, a 
  60.                            Russian made advanced marksman rifle

  62. EPW - Enemy Prisoner of War

  66. FARP - Fueling and Rearming Point

  100.  
  101. HE - High Explosive
  102.  
  103. HONOR - Total experience points the player has earned
  104.  
  105. Hooah - US Army slang term used by soldiers that
  106.               generally means something ôgoodö. Often used
  107.               in a celebratory manner to show excitement
  108.  
  109. HQ - Headquarters
  110.  
  111. HUD - Heads-Up Display
  112.  
  113. IF - Indigenous Forces who assist US Special Forces units
  114.  
  115. IP - Internet Protocol; generally refers to the servers 
  116.       address
  117.  
  118. IRC - Internet Chat Relay (a chat room interface)
  119.  
  120. ISDN - Integrated Services Digital Network, a type
  121.            of internet connection.

  123. Jumper - A player who has fallen and dies by 
  124.                'leaving a crater'

  126. lpc - Lower PC on Insurgent Camp

  128. LAN - Local Area Network

  130. LOF - Line of Fire

  132. LOL - Laughing Out Loud

  134. LOS - Line of Sight

  136. M16/M16A2 - The M16A2 is the standard issue rifle for the 
  137.                       United States Army
  138.  
  139. M4A1 - The M4A1 is a shortened variant of the M16A2 rifle, 
  140.              yet it packs the same firepower
  141.  
  142. M4 - The Rangers use this modified version of the M4A1. 
  143.         Special Forces also used a modifiable version of 
  144.         this weapon (see SOPMOD)
  145.  
  146. M203 - Mounted under the M16A2 or M4A1, the single-shot 
  147.             M203 fires 40mm grenades with a devastating 
  148.             blast radius
  149.  
  150. M249 - The M249 squad automatic weapon is a support 
  151.              weapon (see SAW or AR)
  152.  
  153. M24 - The M24 is the standard issue advanced marksman 
  154.           rifle for the U.S. Army
  155.  
  156. M82 - The Barrett M82A1 is a magazine-fed, semiautomatic 
  157.           advanced marksman rifle
  158.  
  159. M9 - The M9 Pistol is the handgun carried by advanced 
  160.         marksman as a 'last-resort' close quarters combat 
  161.         weapon

  163. Main - Main valve on Pipeline
  164.  
  165. METTT - Essential planning factors: Mission, Enemy
  166.               Terrain, Troops and Time
  167.  
  168. mg - Machine Gun
  169.  
  170. MILES - Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System -
  171.              a system of lasers used to simulate combat.
  172.  
  173. MOS - Military Occupational Specialty
  174.  
  175. Mosin Nagant - The OPFOR bolt-action advanced marksman 
  176.                          rifle is reliable and comparable to 
  177.                          the M24 SWS
  178.  
  179. Nade - Grenade
  180.  
  181. NCO - Noncommissioned Officer (Corporal, Sergeant,
  182.            Staff Sergeant, etc)
  183.  
  184. Newbie - Generally this is a new player
  185.  
  186. nj - Nice Job
  187.  
  188. n00b - Derogatory slang for a player who does something
  189.            stupid, often repeatedly, and who may be a 
  190.            new player
  191.  
  192. np - No Problem
  193.  
  194. ns - Nice Shot
  195.  
  196. nt - Nice Try
  197.  
  198. NVG - Night Vision Goggles
  199.  
  200. OPFOR - Opposing Forces, ie: the enemy
  201.  
  202. Ping - The time it takes for data from your computer
  203.            to go to and from a server in milliseconds.
  204.            (lower is better)

  206. PLF - Parachute Landing Fall

  208. PLT - Platoon

  210. Pri/Prime - Primary valve on Pipeline

  212. Rambo - Person who runs by himself to attack the OPFOR,
  213.               often derogatory, also known as ôlone wolfö
  214.  
  215. RL - Real Life
  216.  
  217. ROE - Rules of Engagement, also slang for the negative 
  218.           points accrued for friendly fire
  219.  
  220. RPK - A variant of the AKM assault rifle, the APK light 
  221.          machine is comaparable to the M249 SAWm the RPK 
  222.          has a smaller magazine, shorter effective range,
  223.          and less recoil 
  224.  
  225. RPG - Rocket Propelled Grenade
  226.  
  227. SAW - Squad Automatic Weapon (M249)
  228.  
  229. Sec - Secondary valve on Pipeline
  230.  
  231. SF - US Special Forces

  235. Smoke - Smoke Grenade

  247. SQD - Squad (8-12 soldiers)
